Introducing Electronic Gift Aid
We all know how important Gift Aid is to stores and we have already done a lot of work on volunteer engagement to help improve sign up and conversion rates. But we knew that wasn’t the end of the story; where else was money being lost or walking out of the door?
We work with some of the biggest charities in the UK and they highlighted to us a real problem with Gift Aid – the amount of sign-ups that are lost due to paper forms. Too often donors grab a form and promise to fill it in later, and are never seen again. When the forms are completed, they are frequently inaccurate, incomplete, or just plain illegible. In some organisations the number of forms rejected reaches as high as 25%; that’s a lot of Gift Aid going unclaimed.
Enter Electronic Gift Aid – or EGA – a solution that takes the paper forms and replaces them with a modern touchscreen interface. Crucially, it’s not limited to running on an EPOS device; tying up your till in a busy store when there’s a queue of people wanting to buy goods will only frustrate people.
It’s been designed to run on tablets which can be securely mounted or carried to wherever needed, making it as easy as possible for volunteers to grab the details of donors who are in a rush, or for those donors to complete the process themselves.
The EGA solution is designed specifically for each charity that uses it to include their branding and logos, making the users instantly familiar with the aesthetics.
Capturing the data on a screen rather than a paper form has a number of direct benefits. The data is quickly and accurately captured digitally, removing the need to decipher handwriting and transpose the information.
Addresses are fetched from a service using the Royal Mail’s postcode address file, ensuring accuracy and reducing the time taken to fill in the details. Thirdly, the screen can prompt donors for essential data – no more missed checkboxes!
